This seminar will train firearms instructors, police chiefs, training officers and supervisors on the importance of proper firearms training in reducing the risk of liability to the officer, police chief and municipality. Firearms training case law will be discussed for the purpose of determining which aspects of a department’s firearms training program are essential to maintain a necessary professional standard of training. Other topics to be discussed include minimum training and qualification standards; training and qualification frequency; what to do with officers who fail to qualify; policy development; and how to enhance firearms training even with shrinking budget resources.
